Team TSA Runs, Walks and Cheers

at the Westchester Running Festival

On October 9, 2011, an intrepid band of runners and walkers from the New York Hudson Valley Chapter took part in the Westchester Running Festival to raise money for the chapter's programs and raise awareness of TS.  They were cheered on by a group of friends and family members.  Organized by Team TSA coordinator Lauren Smith and board member Helene Walisever, the event was a big success for the chapter in many ways, not the least of which was raising over $1000 in sponsorships for the chapter's programs and activities. 

As Lauren said, "I am going to state the obvious, but I feel the need to do it anyway...For me, the beauty of an event like this (lots of happy people, beautiful weather, many smiles and several green shirts) is that it "normalizes" a medical condition that so many people know little about and what they do know is often a misconception.  It is awesome that Tyler did so well...he is our running/tri hometown hero to team up with Ethan, our Youth Ambassador who is so charming and good with the kids.  It is wonderful for the younger kids to have such awesome and successful role models-quite honestly, with or with out TS!! And I guess that is my point!"

The chapter participants included

  • Tyler Breckenridge age 18, ran 6.5 miles and won a medal for coming in 1st in his age group!

  • Jeff Aronsky completed a 6.5 mile run

  • Daniel Berkson, age 12, and his friend Arthur Liebowitz, age 12, ran 6.5 miles.

    •

  • Lauren Smith, Team TSA Coordinator did a 13.1 mile run 

  • Helene Walisever and Risa Davis racewalked 13.1 miles

  • The Kempners (Ethan, age 17, Ross age 13 and dad Brian) did a 6.5 mile walk

  • Laura Preskin and Dana Inzeo walked 6.5 miles

  • The Inzeos (Ryan, age 12, Jason, age 11 and dad John) jogged 6. 5 miles

  • Lou Sorrel, who signed up to run 13. 1 miles but was injured, so he cheered us on instead.

    •

  • The Eskenazi family who were out in full force cheering us on and then participated in the kids fun run. 

     

    Thanks to all the other friends and family who came out to cheer on Team TSA.
